El Paso Locomotive FC Secures Draw in Heated Match Against Colorado Springs

EL PASO, Texas – On a vibrant Friday night at Southwest University Park, El Paso Locomotive FC showcased their resilience, drawing 1-1 with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and extending their home unbeaten streak to three games.

Wearing their new Vaquero Kit, the Locomotive faced a challenging opponent known for their swift transitions, a trait that was on full display when Colorado Springs scored the opening goal in the 24th minute. Despite the setback, El Paso’s spirit remained unbroken, with the team making a robust comeback in the second half.

Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera expressed both frustration and determination in the post-match press conference. “We played much better in the second half and managed to equalize quickly,” Cabrera noted. “We created several chances, including a penalty, but unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalize on them. It’s frustrating, but we can’t stop fighting. We need to improve and keep pushing.”

The equalizer came just six minutes into the second half, with Ricky Ruiz delivering a powerful header that revitalized the team and the home crowd. El Paso maintained the pressure, and their efforts were rewarded with a penalty opportunity in the 68th minute. Eric Calvillo stepped up to take the crucial penalty shot but was thwarted by the Switchbacks’ goalkeeper, who made a decisive save to keep the score level.

Despite missing the penalty, the Locomotive dominated possession and continuously threatened the opposition’s goal. However, the elusive second goal that would have clinched a victory remained out of reach as the match concluded with both teams sharing the spoils.

El Paso Locomotive FC’s resolve remains as they look to build on their performance and secure more victories in the upcoming matches. The team’s next challenge will be a road trip, where they aim to replicate their home form and climb higher in the league standings.
